The racist group “La Meute,” which considers itself as nationalists, protested the refugees seeking asylum in Canada on Sunday.

The racist group, protesting against the migration policies of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Quebec Mayor Philippe Couillard, called for tighter border check due to the increasing illegal crossings from the United States to Canada.

Trudeau had made a statement just hours before the demonstration saying, “The small minority, angry, frustrated group of racists don’t get to define who we are as a country, don’t get to tell others who we are and don’t get to change the nature of the open, accepting values that make us who we are.”

Anti-racist protesters were not far behind and also showed their stance in the rally. Police held the racist protesters in a garage for four hours in order to prevent the two groups from clashing.

Known with their anti-Islam and racist opinions, the group was later allowed to march in the city center. Police clashed with the members of the counter demonstration that began peacefully.
