Italian club Roma's 38-year-old veteran Francesco Totti became "oldest" scorer in UEFA Champions League history after finding the net against English side Manchester City on Tuesday night.

According to the statement made on UEFA.com on Wednesday, Roma captain Totti -celebrating his 38th birthday on Saturday- put the ball in the back of the net in 23rd minute at the City of Manchester Stadium last night beating former Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs' record who was aged 37 years 290 days when he scored at Portuguese giants' Benfica on matchday one in 2011-12.

"I am proud to have achieved the oldest goalscorer record, without any doubt, but I hope to carry on and not stop here", Roma icon Totti said UEFA.com and adding, "I've said before I am 38 but I don't feel it."

Totti's record had widespread media coverage in Italy as well. Italian newspapers La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport each praised Totti's performance.

After matchday two in UEFA Champions League, Italian club Roma -collecting 4 points so far- are now in runners-up position in Group E that German giants Bayern Munich are coming out on top with 6 points.
