Grand National Assembly of Turkey Security and Intelligence Commission Chairman and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Member of Parliament Emrullah İşler spoke to Yeni Şafak on the Qatar crisis. Stating that Qatar had adopted a policy different from Gulf states following the Arab spring in 2011, “Qatar followed the same path with Turkey’s policy. This path was about listening to the people’s legitimate demands. Thus, Qatar supported the legitimate demands of grassroots movements in the countries experiencing the Arab Spring. However, other Gulf states were uncomfortable with this situation. They initiated the countermovement and provided all kinds of support to coup leader Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi. They wanted to somehow settle old scores in countries that conduced to the Arab spring,” said Emrullah İşler.

GEZİ WAS THE FIRST OPERATION

“Within this process, it was necessary to render Turkey unsuccessful too. The Gezi events was the first operation. They failed and instead, immediately after, conducted the coup in Egypt in July. We know which television channels in which countries were full of shouts for joy on July 15, 2016. What’s certain is that the libertarian and pro-democracy policies of Turkey disturbs some countries. Due to the fact that Qatar follows the same path with Turkey, they have attempted such actions against Qatar. It is clear that these decisions taken during the Arab Spring will cause serious upheaval in the Arab street,” İşler added.

THE LIST IS UNCONSCIONABLE

“Denouncing the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization does not get the Arab world out of a jam. Charities, well-known Islamic scholars, journalists, statesmen and politicians are on the announced terror list. This list is unconscionable. We have seen what some people in charge did regarding the recent Wikileaks documents against Turkey. We want the problems to be solved. I do not foresee that the blockade on Qatar will last long. Considering Turkey’s foreign policy role, we have always adopted a policy in the direction of peace, stability and reconciliation. In case of any problem, we provide all kinds of support so that the problem is solved, including mediation."
