Did the US only now realize that Assad is the source of the problem?

The clear and determined stance Turkey has displayed against the U.S. statement that it is going to take steps to form a security force in Syria, is being followed with interest and regard worldwide. The very clear inconsistency between what the U.S. has been saying and doing in Syria is similarly being noted. The U.S. as the founder and biggest partner of NATO, in which Turkey is its biggest ally, coming from a 5,000-mile distance, crossing oceans, and cooperating with a terrorist organization that carries out actions against Turkey brings the U.S. to the top of the list of countries that cannot be trusted and with which agreements cannot be made.

Up until now, it is not possible to figure out, through the U.S.’s own statements, what it has wanted or what it wants in Syria. It led the 120-country coalition, that was formed to topple Bashar Assad in cooperation with the “Friends of Syria” alliance, but when this coalition came to Syria, they suddenly forgot why they went there in the first place. Instead of dealing with Assad, it started to occupy itself with Daesh. That is of course, if we believe this scenario.

Even though this is how it seems, it does not seem very reasonable to accept that the U.S. has gone as low as to accept to play an extra in the game set up by Assad. If such a thing were possible, the U.S. itself would be a total lie.

The U.S. is in such a wrong that, Turkey’s opposition to it shows that being right alone can be a great source of power. It showed the power, which had risen purely based on being right, in its fight against the U.S.’s recent declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Now, it is now making a legitimate outburst against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has been causing great grief to this country and its people for the last 35 years, which has led to the death of more than 50,000 people, being armed at the Turkish border with U.S. support and being turned into a military.

The U.S. has no argument nor any reasonable excuse to explain this policy to the world; when doing this, it has no benefit it can offer to the peoples or their peace in the region.

Despite this, Turkey is not against the formation of this terror army only because it poses a threat to Turkey. This army also poses a great threat to the existence, unity and future of Syria. Turkey has not made the slightest change in its position on this matter from the beginning. Syria belongs to Syrians, and Syria’s territorial integrity cannot even be a subject up for debate.

Turkey’s interest in Syria is solely aimed at the benefit of the Syrian people, yet any threat from Syrian territory toward Turkey will give rise to a natural right of defense for Turkey. In addition to the people of Syria, Turkey is also paying the price for the civil war in Syria. The 3.5 million Syrians it is hosting give Turkey a greater right than anyone else to talk about Syria. Despite this, Turkey transfers this right to the Syrian people and wants to render them the sole authority in determining Syria’s future.

Hence, it has been insistent on agreeing with Russia and Iran on having all foreign elements in Syria – all three of them included – withdraw and leave Syria to the Syrian people.

Turkey’s determined stance is of course heard in the U.S. and considered important by them. That is why statements followed one after the other saying that they understand Turkey’s concerns and that steps will be takin to eliminate these concerns.

First, U.S. Department of State spokesperson stated that there are no Daesh elements in Afrin and hence, they do not and will not back the Democratic Union Party (PYD) there, indicating that a likely Turkey operation may be shown understanding. Then, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that what they were doing in Syria could not be understood as “creating a security force,” and wiped the slate clean of all their previous statements.

On a different note, the U.S. first presented the mission of “preventing Daesh’s revival” as a reason for its current presence in Syria, where Daesh has been almost entirely wiped out, then it said that the Assad regime is means to Iran’s activity in the region and that Assad is the chief reason behind the emergence of both Daesh and the other terror elements. This statement can be interpreted that the U.S., from now on, has revised its Syria objective. Of course, on the condition that no trust is put in this statement. Because Turkey had been saying that Assad is the chief reason behind all the terror formations from the very beginning.

The U.S. policy that was forcing everybody to focus on Daesh was a simple diversion of the goal and it was obvious that it would serve nothing other than maintaining Assad’s rule. Nobody would believe that the U.S. realized this only now.

In an environment where new strategies are being announced to take measures against Daesh’s revival, we watched all together how Daesh terrorists were evacuated from Raqqa to be positioned elsewhere under U.S.-PYD control just a few of months ago.

The U.S.’s injustice is dragging it to inconsistency and weakness disproportionate to its financial power. If it continues like this, its financial power and armed superiority will not save it, and will likely drag it to rapid exhaustion.
