Turkey on Saturday received the largest single cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatargas, the world’s largest LNG company, at the Marmara LNG Terminal.

The LNG was delivered aboard Q-Flex vessel “Al Sheehaniya,” which became the first ever of its kind to dock at the Marmara LNG Terminal in Turkey.

“The recent expansion of Marmara LNG Terminal allows Qatargas to send the world’s largest LNG vessels to yet another LNG terminal in Turkey,” said Qatargas chief executive officer Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani.

The Marmara LNG terminal, owned by BOTAŞ, the Turkish state-owned integrated gas company. has recently gone through upgrades to accommodate both Q-Flex and Q-Max vessels.

Turkey has two operational LNG terminals - in Marmara Ereğlisi and in Aliağa. Aliağa is located in Izmir, the western extremity of Anatolia and Marmara Ereğlisi is located in the west of Istanbul.

Turkey imports 4 billion cubic meters of LNG from Algeria per year and 1.2 billion cubic meters of LNG from Nigeria via its LNG terminals.
