Turkey sees rise in registered vehicles in August

A total of 837,848 vehicles registered in first eight months of 2017, according to official TurkStat data

The number of motor vehicle registrations in Turkey rose 12.8 percent year-on-year in August, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said on Wednesday.

A total of 107,837 vehicles were registered during the month, according to TurkStat.

"The total number of road motor vehicles registered reached 21.86 million by the end of August," it said.

In August, automobiles accounted for most new registrations, 58.7 percent, while motorcycles and small trucks represented 16.4 percent and 16.3 percent, respectively.

As for the car makes registered, Renault made up 16 percent of new registrations, followed by Volkswagen with 12.5 percent and Fiat with 8.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of motor vehicle registrations reached 837,848 in January-August, up 4 percent from the same period last year, the data showed.
