A technician from Turkey's eastern Van province has started to keep a coronavirus diary in which he writes down the names of people who had violated his two-meter social distancing gap since patient zero was announced in the country.

Bülent Menteşe told NTV that he is meticulously writing down the names of those who come within two meters from him when he leaves home everyday.

The journal also includes the dates and locations of each event.

He believes that it will be very useful for quarantine measures in case he tests positive for the novel coronavirus.

"I will write your name as I am interviewing you right now," he told reporters.

The disease known as COVID-19, which emerged in Wuhan, China last December, has spread to at least 177 countries and regions around the globe, while a total of 27,862 people have died and confirmed cases hit 601,478.

In all, 131,777 people diagnosed with the virus have recovered from the disease.
