Fresh details have emerged about Turkey's first domestically-produced car as the country counts down for the prototype debut.

According to reports published by Turkish media on Wednesday, the car design firm and coachbuilder Pininfarina, an Italian company renowned for designing the iconic Ferraris and Alfa Romeos, has designed Turkey's first electric SUV model.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will test-drive the first prototype of the car on Dec. 14 in the Information Technologies Valley (IT Valley) in the Gebze district of the industry-rich province of Kocaeli, the location the car was produced.

The electric vehicle, which has a 500-kilometer range, offers an augmented reality navigation. It is expected to become available for commercial sales in 2022.

Earlier in August, Turkey's Automobile Joint Venture Group (TOGG) unveiled the first 3D prototype of the car that is based on a 1:4 scale.

The Joint Enterprise Group – comprised of the Anadolu Group, BMC, Kök Group, Turkcell, and Zorlu Holding – reached a milestone on Nov. 2, 2017 as per the protocol signed under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s leadership, the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology and TOBB.

The company was named “Turkey's Automobile Initiative Group Industry and Trade Co.” Anadolu Group, BMC, Kök Group, Zorlu Holding and Turkcell's shares stand at 19 percent each, while TOBB has a five percent share.
