Starring Frances McDormand and written by Zhao, the film had a total of four nominations in 78th Golden Globes, which was held by video conference due to the pandemic, and hosted by actresses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Written and starred by English actor Sacha Baron Cohen, "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" won Best Picture in Musical/Comedy.

The event was criticized for Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) not having any Black voting members, yet, Black actors grabbed a number of awards.

Late Chadwick Boseman was awarded the Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his role in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom." Boseman, who lost his life in August at the age of 43, is mostly known by movie fans as King T’Challa or Black Panther from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

Daniel Kaluuya was awarded Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in "Judas and the Black Messiah."

British-Nigerian actor John Boyega, known by fans as Finn in Star Wars Universe, was awarded Best Supporting Actor - Television for his role in "Small Axe."

HFPA made a statement via video that it plans to include more Black and other minority reporters in its organization in the future. "Like in film and television, Black representation is vital. We must have Black journalists in our organization," said HFPA Vice President Helen Hoehne.
