Turkey has completed the infrastructure works of an automotive assembly plant to produce its first fully domestically-made car, "TOGG," in the northwestern province of Bursa, an industrial heartland of the country.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the factory, which will be built on a former military-owned plot in Bursa's Gemlik district, is expected to be held in June, sources familiar with the matter told Yeni Şafak daily on Thursday.

Experts have carried out feasibility investigations and have begun to demolish the structures in a giant 1-million-square-meter plot.

All necessary infrastructure works, such as electricity, water and gas, were also completed, according to reports.

The launch of the production plant is planned to be completed in 18 months, with the car expected to hit the market in 2022.

It will create 4,323 jobs, including 300 qualified personnel.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had unveiled prototypes of the domestically-produced electric car with a grand ceremony in December.

The design of the first model was completed by the car design firm and coach-builder Pininfarina, an Italian company renowned for designing the iconic Ferraris and Alfa Romeos.

Inspired by Anatolian culture, the elegant 'Made in Turkey' vehicle bears a tulip design that runs through the front grille and wheels.

Turkey's Automobile Joint Venture Group (TOGG), a joint venture of five holding companies and a business union, plans to produce five models, -- SUV, sedan, c-hatchback, b-SUV and b-MPV --, all of them expected to hit the road by the year 2030.
