Turkey’s state-run aid agency has opened a computer lab and a technology classroom in a school in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi.
The lab with a 20-student capacity and the 75-student capacity classroom were opened in Khadija Girls College by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
The college is located in Korangi, one of the most populous towns of Karachi.
The opening ceremony was attended by Turkish Consul General in Karachi Tolga Ucak, TIKA’s Karachi Coordinator Ibrahim Katirci and Pakistan’s former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail among school administrators and other guests.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ismail thanked TIKA for its support, saying the students would be going to have a better quality education. He also thanked Turkey for the support.
Katirci, for his part, said the project was a good example of permanent projects being carried out in the field of education, and added that Turkey would continue projects for the improvement of education sector in Pakistan.
Ucak also said the two countries have very strong and deep-rooted friendship ties, and those ties would be further strengthened through these kinds of projects.
Amina Shahid, an eighth grade student, said she wanted to become a geography teacher and a traveler in the future.
“Thanks to TIKA for building the computer lab, I can easily access interesting information about different countries on the Internet,” Shahid said.
