58-year old Sami Demir from Turkey’s eastern province of Van installed five marble sculptures of Ottoman sultans which were built in China and worth $175,000 in his own garden.
The statues, which weigh 1,200 tons each, were shipped to Turkey’s Mediterranean resort city of Antalya and transferred to his hometown by trucks six months ago.
Demir said that he wanted to fulfil his late father’s wish who passed away 14 years ago.
“My late father loved these kind of works. He used to say to me, ‘Go and bring our cultural heritage here even though they are located in China. I decided to build them in China because I couldn't do it here,” he said.
Demir is considering organizing an exhibition in his garden during the summer months.
