The EU leaders’ Summit is set to reconvene on June 30 after discussion on nominations on who should take on the bloc's top jobs failed to build a consensus.

"There was no majority on any candidate," said European Council President Donald Tusk.

"The European Council agreed that there needs to be a package reflecting the diversity of the EU. We will meet again on 30th June," Tusk said, adding that he would continue consultations including with the European Parliament.

The European Council covered a number of issues, including the long-term EU budget, adopting the strategic agenda and confirming the roll-over of economic sanctions against Russia for another six months, due to the non-implementation of the Minsk Agreements, Tusk added.

The EU leaders met on Thursday in Brussels to determine on the new heads of the EU Council and European Central Bank and the EU foreign policy chief at the two-day summit as well as the nomination of a new EU Commission president, the most controversial and challenging issue for leaders.
