US confirms first Wuhan coronavirus case

Male patient in Washington state reportedly infected as health agency set to give more details

The first case of Wuhan coronavirus in the U.S. was reported in Washington state, according to U.S. media reports Tuesday.

CNN reported an infected male patient from Snohomish County is in isolation at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.

The patient experienced symptoms after returning from a trip to the region around Wuhan and was diagnosed with pneumonia last week, according to the New York Times.

His infection with was confirmed Monday.

Also known as 2019-nCoV, the coronavirus, which causes pneumonia-like symptoms, was identified in December in Wuhan, China.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will provide more details about the case later Tuesday.

At least six people have died and nearly 300 cases reported this month in China.

Beyond China, the virus has affected people in Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.
