Turkish doctors have brought remedies for thousands of patients in Niger since arriving in the country two weeks ago as part of a charity program launched by Health and Education Villages Volunteers Association, BISEG.

The medical team comprises 40 people, including 10 doctors that have treated 5,500 people free of charge and held various surgical operations.

Dr. Hasan Salih Saglam, the head of the Urology Department at Turkiye's Sakarya University and also a part of the medical team, said he has joined charity organizations in Africa for the past decade, conducting activities such as medical assistance and charity.

“Our team provides food there, we try to meet the needs to our best ability,” he said, noting that the region they worked in was challenging.

“A hospital built by BISEG on 2,000 square meters will be operational. … We have examined 5,500 patients in two weeks and performed surgery on 10% of them,” he added.

According to Saglam, the assistance they provided for the locals meant a lot as they were building bridges of trust between the two nations, while the local people's love towards Turkiye grew larger with such non-governmental efforts.
