Turkey's ruling AKP party to hold convention Saturday

Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) will hold its 2nd national convention on Saturday, or Nov. 11, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Friday.

According to the report, approximately 1460 delegates across the country will cast their votes to elect the leader and the new 50-member central executive board (MYK) during the convention.


Many foreign guests and representatives of political parties and non-governmental organization have been invited to be in Ankara to attend the gathering.


The AKP was founded on Aug. 14, 2001 as the 39th political party of Turkey. It came to the government after winning the general elections on Nov. 3, 2002.
