An ancient tomb was found in an olive grove in Iznik, Bursa.

A new ancient tomb was found in an olive grove located in the district of Iznik in Bursa province, making it the second such finding in a month, according to reports.

A museum-linked archeologue, along with a number of art historians, were able to reach the tomb's upper cover during excavations under the supervision of the Gendarmerie.

The tomb, which appears to have never been opened before, was completely submerged under soil.

Since its excavation, the ancient tomb has been under the protection of the Gendarmerie for 24 hours, after a decision was made to delay opening it pending the arrival of a team of specialists from Ankara.

Found in an olive grove in the town of Hisardere, the burial site was completely surrounded by other ancient tombs.

On every occasion, treasure hunters attempt to excavate artifacts belonging to the Roman-era Greek city of Necropolis or “City of the Dead,” according to reports.

Back in 2015 and 2016, three tombs were found in Iznik, which were moved to the garden of the city's Museum Directorate.

Embossed figures of the mythological gods Eros, Hercules and Medusa, in addition to engravings of the Lotus flower were found on the tomb, which weighs between 4 and 6 tons and is estimated to be between 800 and 2,000 years old.
