Following the global craze over streaming networks, especially Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu, just to name a few, the monde de la mode decided it was now its turn to take to the silver screen— or at the very least to mock our inexplicable obsession with it.
Starring cream of the crop celebs, from J Lo to Megan Thee Stallion, who plays a sassier version of Regina from “Mean Girls,” to Michael B. Jordan and Cole Sprouse, Coach’s Fall 2021 collection pulled out all the stops with its whimsical pre-show spoofs in what the brand called “Coach TV.”
Two of the most prominent stars of South Korea’s K-pop frenzy starred in the “Friends” parody for Coach’s introduction to their lookbook of designs produced by Stuart Vevers. Real-life couple HyunA and Dawn, playing Ross and Rachel from the hit '90s show, took us for a trip down memory lane as we are transported into an alternative reality version of the cluttered but cozy purple-walled apartment of Monica and Rachel.
In the clip, HyunA, a former member of K-pop bands like 4Minute and Wonder Girl and one of the nation’s best-selling solo artists, performs a dance-off with her real-life boyfriend Dawn, who is a rapper-producer, over who gets to eat the last cookie.
The lookbook went displayed pieces from the new collection shot around the globe with a plethora of Coach family celebrities modeling the collection, including Kaia Gerber and Paloma Elsesser.
“I have always loved exploring the intersection of fashion and pop culture at Coach,” said Vevers in a statement.
“I am excited to bring my latest vision for the house to life via Coach TV. I wanted both the collection and the presentation to make sense and resonate in these unique times, and I am excited to share both in a way that I hope will entertain and inspire.”
