NATO and the EU on Friday condemned Russia's cyberattack against Germany and Czechia.

"I strongly condemn Russia's malicious cyber activities against NATO Allies, including Germany and Czechia," NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said on X, voicing commitment to countering the "substantial, continuous and increasing" cyber threat.

The North Atlantic Council, in a statement, noted that the same threat actor has targeted other national governmental entities, critical infrastructure operators, and other entities across the alliance, including in Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, and Sweden.

"The malicious cyber activities targeting Germany and Czechia underscore that cyberspace is contested at all times," the council said. "Cyber threat actors persistently seek to destabilize the Alliance."

In a separate statement, the EU stressed that a malicious cyber campaign shows "Russia's continuous pattern of irresponsible behavior in cyberspace, by targeting democratic institutions, government entities, and critical infrastructure providers across the European Union and beyond."

The bloc underscored that this type of behavior is contrary to the UN norms of responsible state behavior in cyberspace.

"The EU will not tolerate such malicious behaviour, particularly activities that aim to degrade our critical infrastructure, weaken societal cohesion and influence democratic processes, mindful of this year's elections in the EU and in more than 60 countries around the world," it added.
