Two-year old Abdullah Hassan who suffered from a genetic brain condition that has continued to worsen, has died at a hospital in California on Saturday

His Yemeni mother, Shaima Swileh, was granted a visa waiver on December 19 to say goodbye to her son after being barred from entering the U.S. by the Trump administration's travel ban, which targets people from mostly Muslim-majority countries.

His father also repeatedly issued calls to allow Abdullah’s mother into the U.S. despite the Muslim ban.

“We are heartbroken. We had to say goodbye to our baby, the light of our lives,” Ali Hassan, Abdullah’s father, said in the statement.
